I purchased a couple things before I went home. One being the DSW program "Tracktion 2" for $150, the other being the Alesis Multimix 12 USB for $250. I plan on returning the Alesis if I can because i thought it was the same as the firewire model. This one does not have the capabilities I need. I've decided that it will probably be better to build my own mixer from scratch as well as the computer. I'm finding that my needs are too specific to find out there in the consumer world. I still plan on purchasing products to fit in it down the road. But right now, it seems like i'm going to be building more stuff than i originally planned. I sent an e-mail to Ken McKormic, but he hasn't responded yet. He will probably be able to help me build whatever mixer i design.
My dad bought me a few helper books: Startups that Work, Patents to Profit, Starting a Non-Profit, and a small business guide. Those will be very helpful in the coming months, I'm going to be reading a lot once i get back to Boston. My dad also told me that he can borrow one of the new powerful laptops from his school for a week. These machines have auto-CAD on them. I have a couple friends in the engineering and archetechture departments (Josh Barnett and Daniel Ottocian) who will help me with a few designs that I would like to get going on a patent right away. Reading through this Patent book, I'm finding that the paperwork for this can be filled out long before the prototype is built.
